More Ways to Save!
Saving water in the workplace:
- Increase employee awareness and seek their suggestions to conserve;
- Assign an employee to monitor water use and waste;
- Display "Waterhog" posters and other materials at your business;
- Fix leaks;
- Conduct a water conservation suggestion contest!
Saving water in the yard:
- Water early in the morning or in the evening to reduce evaporation;
- Use a rain barrel to collect roof-runoff. A rainfall event as small as 0.1" can fill a 55-gallon rain barrel;
- Water lawns no more than 1" a week;
- Choose drought tolerant native plants;
- Mulch landscapes to retain moisture;
- Install drip irrigation soaker hoses;
- Aerate lawn to help water reach roots;
- Always use a nozzle with a shutoff on your garden hose;
- Sweep driveways and walkways instead of spraying with water.
Other saving tips:
- Wash your car at a car wash that recycles;
- Replace toilets with more efficient newer model;
- Cool water for drinking by keeping it in a pitcher in the refrigerator, avoiding the tap to cool it--cold water tastes even better!
