Drinking Water

Casad DamThe City of Bremerton is proud to provide our customers with high quality water. Your drinking water is regularly tested to ensure that it meets all federal and state standards. Be assured that your water supply is safe and meets all public health requirements.

The City's water supply comes primarily from the Union River, located in a pristine and closely managed watershed. This source is supplemented with groundwater from area wells. Water sources are treated with chlorine as required for disinfection purposes and pH is adjusted prior to entering the distribution system for corrosion control. Because we are fortunate to have high quality water, this is the only water treatment needed. The water is delivered to your home or business by 289 miles of distribution pipe, 18 reservoirs, and 9 pump stations. Approximately 8 million gallons is delivered to our customers each day.

The Federal Safe Drinking Water Act directs the US Environmental Protection Agency to establish national drinking water standards. In the State of Washington, the Department of Health manages this program. There are two types of standards: Primary and Secondary. Primary standards are to protect your health. Secondary standards are set for taste and aesthetic factors that do not present a health risk. The City of Bremerton Department of Public Works and Utilities ensures that the water provided to you meets these standards. This is accomplished by proper operation of our surface and well sources, maintenance of our distribution system, and regular monitoring of the water delivered to our customers. Your water is tested regularly at the source and in the distribution system.

A summary of tests and test results can be found in the Annual Water Quality Report, which also explains where the City's water comes from, how it is treated and what compounds were detected in the water.
